The Story
Fürenalp sits at the end of a gondola above Engelberg — accessible only by cable car, positioned on an alm that looks out over one of the finest alpine panoramas in central Switzerland. The Titlis massif, the valley below, snow still on the peaks even in summer.
The restaurant serves what this kind of setting demands: fondue, Rösti, local cheese, Valais wine. Nothing revolutionary. Everything correct. A Swiss mountain lunch executed with the precision that only the Swiss apply to the things they've been doing for centuries.
Philosophy
How we work.
Swiss mountain produce — cheese from the alm, wine from the valleys below
The classic dishes, done correctly — no reinvention required
Signature Dishes

Cheese fondue
Half Gruyère, half Vacherin Fribourgeois — the Swiss benchmark, at altitude, with the mountain behind you.

Rösti
The Swiss potato — shredded, pan-fried, unapologetically simple. The best version here is the one with local cheese on top.

Valais Pinot Noir
Switzerland's finest red — rarely exported, almost impossible to find outside Switzerland. This is the place to drink it.
The Feeling
Feels like
The best Swiss cliché — and I mean that as a compliment. Snow, fondue, mountains, wine.
Best time
Midday — arrive by 12:30pm to get a terrace table
Music
Cowbells. Seriously.
Perfect for
The CinCin Notes
Fürenalp is the Swiss mountain lunch we'd send everyone to — unpretentious, correct, with a view that makes the fondue taste better than it already would.
Take the gondola from Engelberg. Book ahead in summer. Order the fondue. Drink the Valais wine. This is Switzerland doing what Switzerland does best.
