Zillertal
Where the Alps still look like the Alps.
The Zillertal runs about 40 kilometres south from Jenbach in the Inn valley to the Schlegeis reservoir and the Zillertal Alps, with peaks over 3,500 metres. It is wider than many South Tyrolean valleys, more open, and therefore different: more light, more sky, more space.
In summer the valley is one of Austria's best hiking regions. Over 1,700 kilometres of marked trails, high-altitude routes on glaciers, huts at every level of difficulty. The Ahorn area above Mayrhofen is particularly beautiful: golden larches in autumn, panorama on three sides.
In winter the Zillertal is split between five ski areas — Mayrhofen, Hochzillertal, Hochfügen, Kaltenbach and the Zillertal Arena — which together offer over 180 kilometres of pistes and 50 lifts. No Zermatt, no Verbier. But good skiing without the name premium.
We send guests to the Zillertal who want to travel actively and don't want to choose between wellness and mountains. The Forsthofgut in Leogang — technically Salzburg province but Zillertal-adjacent — is the best example: a house that takes the landscape seriously and also has one of the best spas in the region. The valley itself is more honest than its reputation suggests. Less après-ski noise, more landscape. In September, when the larches turn and the hiking trails are empty, it is simply one of the most beautiful places in the Alps.
