Lech am Arlberg, Austria
Rote Wand Gourmet Hotel
Gourmet energy meets the Arlberg. Pleasure as conviction.
A hotel that defines itself not through classic alpine luxury, but through conviction. The Rote Wand is more culinary, more alive, more idiosyncratic than most mountain hotels at the Arlberg. A place where pleasure is the common thread — from the served breakfast to the 2-star Chef's Table in the historic Schualhus dating from 1780.

“Chef's Table with 2 Michelin stars in the Schualhus — an old schoolhouse from 1780 in Zug. Head chef Julian Stieger previously worked at Geranium (Copenhagen), Eleven Madison Park (New York), and Steirereck (Vienna).”
Our take
Why we love it
The Chef's Table in the Schualhus — a 280-year-old schoolhouse as the stage for 2-star cuisine. The combination of place, history, and culinary ambition is unique.
Cuisine as DNA — the entire hotel thinks the stay through food: served breakfast, late lunch, cake time, multi-course evening menu. All-in pleasure.
Zug rather than central Lech: quieter, more immediate landscape, less bustle — but with direct access to Austria's largest ski resort.
The Red Spa at 1,500 m², outdoor pool (32 °C heated year-round), and views of the Madloch — wellness at a high level, without displacing the gourmet DNA.
Design Hotels member — 62 rooms and suites with natural materials, local wood, and clear visual axes toward the Madloch. No chalet kitsch, but a residential design sensibility.
Dining
Food & Drink
Cuisine is the main character: served breakfast without buffet, late lunch, cake time, multi-course evening menu — all included. The crown is the Chef's Table (2 Michelin stars) in the Schualhus with head chef Julian Stieger. Sun terrace with outdoor pool views toward the Madloch.
Spa & Sport
Wellness & Activities
Red Spa across 1,500 m²: Finnish outdoor sauna, brine steam grotto, bio sauna, infrared light therapy sauna, ladies' area, indoor pool, outdoor pool (32 °C, year-round) with views of the Madloch. Strong, but never at the expense of the gourmet DNA.

The Hosts
The Walch family runs the hotel with a clear host signature: culinary adventure and joie de vivre as guiding principles. Not a quiet mountain hotel — a lively, curated pleasure destination that treats food, design, and the Arlberg as one connected experience.
