Farmhouse Torgglerhof sits in the Passeiertal valley in South Tyrol, half an hour from Merano — a working apple and wine farm that has built a hotel around its agricultural life rather than the other way round. The family grows 13 apple varieties, makes their own cider, sekt and vinegar, farms three vineyard plots, and tends a large kitchen garden. The restaurant cooks from it daily. The rooms are spread across the farmstead in converted buildings — barn, main house, guesthouse — each designed with an architect's eye and materials from the valley.

“A genuine working farm — guests can join the apple harvest, attend weekly vineyard tastings, visit the farm cellar, and eat produce that was growing in the garden that morning. The farm life isn't decoration; it's the actual point.”

Your time here
What your days could look like
Wake up to apple trees outside the window. Breakfast in the garden — farm eggs, homemade jams, fresh bread, the farm's own juices. A morning cycling up the valley or picking apples (in season). Lunch under the willow tree. An afternoon at the spa, or a walk up to the vineyard above the farm. Aperitivo as the mountains go golden. Dinner from the garden — whatever Roland harvested that day.

People
The Hosts
The Torgglerhof has been in the same family for generations. The current generation — led by Sepp and Mali, with their children now taking on more of the work — runs the farm and the hotel as a single project, not separate businesses. Everything that can be produced on the farm is: apples, wine, vegetables, herbs, flowers. The phrase "farm to table" was their practice long before it became a trend.

The Area
Passeiertal · 30 min from Merano
Passeiertal (Val Passiria) runs north from Merano into the high Alps — a long, green valley with a river, working farms and dramatic mountain walls. The valley is quiet by South Tyrolean standards: fewer tourists than the Vinschgau or the Eisack valley, better cycling, more intact agricultural character. Merano is 30 minutes south — thermal baths, markets, a food scene that punches above its size. The Texelgruppe nature park begins directly above the farm.
