A hotel in the middle of the city — and yet entirely surrounded by green. Behind an unassuming façade, a garden opens that changes everything. Parkhotel Mondschein feels less like a city hotel and more like a hidden retreat, with a history stretching back to the 14th century.
Four decisions
The Build
Plain towards the street, almost forbidding. Behind it a garden in the middle of Bolzano that nobody would suspect from the front.
The Rooms
Midcentury, in the original — nothing rebuilt, nothing in the style of. The Luna Bar looks like 1962 because it is from 1962.
The Table
Luna Bar and garden. In the evening half the city sits here, and nobody advertised it.

The Cut
No façade that promises anything
No sign on the street
No renovation of the original fabric
"Which is why the wrong people rarely sit at the next table."
Why this house
Five reasons that stay
01A large private garden in the heart of Bolzano — city noise stays outside, calm is within.
02A 14th-century building with modern design — history and present without friction.
03No classic city hotel: a curated place with creative spirit, yoga and a sense of community.
04Three places to eat under one roof: light cooking at Luna, pizza in the vault, an open bar.
05Bolzano as an underrated destination — Italian flair, alpine surroundings, a lively old town.
Behind an unassuming façade in the middle of Bolzano, a large private garden opens up — old trees, loungers, long tables in the green. The city noise stays outside; inside, it is suddenly quiet.
Luna is the culinary heart of the house — a modern, light cuisine with Mediterranean influences that puts quality and atmosphere before effect. In summer the table moves outside, under the trees of the garden.
Quiet rooms in warm tones, with the design sensibility of the house and views over the garden or the rooftops of Bolzano.

Where it stands
Bolzano is one of South Tyrol's most interesting cities — Italian character, alpine surroundings, a lively cultural mix. The hotel is central: the old town, cafés, markets and restaurants are all within walking distance, the train station only minutes away. The park, meanwhile, provides the retreat. The wine regions and the mountains are minutes away.
Who is behind it
Run by a creative owner family with a clear feel for design, culture and atmosphere. The philosophy behind it: a place that wants to be more than just accommodation. It shows in the design, in a programme of yoga and retreats, and in a community spirit that opens the bar, restaurant and garden to the whole city.
The Table
Kitchen and cellar
Modern, light cuisine with Mediterranean influences, focus on quality and atmosphere. The bar is a central meeting point — open, communicative, relevant even for non-staying guests. The garden is a key part of the experience: eating and drinking outside in the green, in the middle of the city.
